1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as your session and preferences — so the experience works correctly between pages and visits.
This policy applies to the Staya web application at staya.co.za. If you are using the Staya mobile app, cookies do not apply — see Section 6 for how the mobile app handles local data storage.
Short version: We only use essential cookies that are strictly necessary for the platform to work. We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies of any kind.
2. Cookies We Use
Staya uses only essential cookies on staya.co.za. These cannot be disabled as they are required for the platform to function.

These cookies contain no personally identifiable information beyond what is necessary to maintain your secure session. They are never used for tracking, profiling, or advertising purposes.
3. What We Do Not Use
Staya does not use any of the following:

We do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for commercial purposes.
4. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services integrated into staya.co.za may set their own cookies as part of their functionality. These are limited to:
- Yoco — may set session cookies during the payment checkout process to secure your transaction and prevent fraud. These cookies are governed by Yoco's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — may set session-related cookies for database authentication. These are essential to the platform's operation and contain no personal data beyond session identifiers.
We do not control third-party cookies and recommend reviewing each provider's privacy policy for full details on their cookie practices.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control, restrict, or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View all cookies currently stored on your device
- Delete individual cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific sites
- Block all third-party cookies
- Set preferences for future cookie handling

Please note: Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in and accessing your booking on staya.co.za. Since we only use essential cookies, blocking all cookies will affect platform functionality.
6. Mobile App Local Storage
The Staya mobile app (iOS and Android) does not use browser cookies. Instead, the app uses device-based local storage (AsyncStorage) to store the following data locally on your device:
- Your active session token — to keep you logged in between app sessions
- Your booking reference — for quick access to your booking details
- Your notification preferences — so you don't have to reconfigure on each visit
This data is stored entirely on your own device and is not transmitted to or accessible by any third party. It is not used for tracking, advertising, or profiling purposes.
You can clear this data at any time by:
- iOS: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Staya → Offload App
- Android: Settings → Apps → Staya → Storage → Clear Data
- Or simply uninstalling and reinstalling the app
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email at least 14 days before changes take effect.
